A Nice Cuppa Magick

How to incorporate tea into your enchanted routine

No matter what corner of the occult you inhabit, tea is a must-have for any witch’s pantry. What’s more magickal than pouring steamy water over some earthy ingredients to make an enchanted elixir?

The right teas can gently wake you up or tuck you into bed. They can also be part of a ritual. Or, a handy way to reaffirm your intentions in the company of mortals.

Sit down with a nice milky cuppa if you have one on hand. We’re going to dive into some easy-to-find potions, their properties, and what they’ll be able to do for your practice.

For Divination and Psychic Dreams

As a magick worker, we know you’re living life as intentionally as possible. But sometimes life throws you a curveball, or you get stuck in the fog of self-doubt. Divination teas are a nice addition to any ritual that involves the need for answers, or a tiny peep into the future.

Use divination tea blends for moments of quiet contemplation, or when working with other divination tools such as tarot, runes, scrying mirrors, and pendulums. Just be sure to take notes- insightful thoughts have a funny way of dissolving into the mist.

herbal tea

*Wait, isn’t Mugwort poisonous? Mugwort has been used (in small quantities) by natural health practitioners for years. It can boost energy, have mild psychotropic effects, and settle your stomach. But it can be harmful for some, especially in large quantities.

If you aren’t well versed in making your own tea, buy a premade blend with a small amount of mugwort, and follow the directions for dose. Do NOT ingest mugwort if you are pregnant, or if you have allergies in the Asteraceae or ragweed family. If you experience side effects, discontinue use and see a doctor.

tea time

For Protection

So you’ve been feeling a little uneasy lately. Maybe there’s a cold going around in the office, or someone’s energy has been putting you off. We all need a little extra protection from the big baddies sometimes. Drink tea as part of a protection ritual, then keep the magick going by sipping the same blend in the days that follow.

Ingredients to look for:

  • Burdock Root- To break a hex, to rid yourself of negative energy stored in the body.
  • Juniper- For purification and banishing work. (Juniper berries are also a key ingredient of gin, if you’d prefer a protection cocktail.)
  • Lemon- To cleanse and purify.
  • Rosemary- To ward off evil and nightmares.
glamour magic

For Glamour Work

First, the bad news: You cannot change the color of your hair with the wave of a wand. But you can work to give yourself the kind of confidence and radiance that makes a person irresistible. Most glamours take a while to take effect. Preparing a beauty potion for daily use will help reaffirm your goals while the universe does its work.

Ingredients to look for:

  • Hibiscus- To increase your attractive qualities.
  • Lavender- For self-love and attraction.
  • Lemon- To flush out self-deprecating feelings.
  • Pomegranate- For transformation.
  • Rose- To call upon mighty Aphrodite.

speedy spells

For Speedy Spells

You need some magick, and you need it now! Word of warning: If this is the kind of magickal work you find yourself doing a lot, the universe may not respond. You want to be sure magick is a part of your daily life, not just something you do when you need a favor.

But every well-rounded witch needs an “in case of emergency” spell in her arsenal, and some herbs are known to speed things up. Just be sure to sit in gratitude when things do work out!

Some of these concoctions can be made at home, but you don’t have to be an expert to stir up a little magick. There are satchels full of enchantment waiting for you in that quaint little tea shop, in your granny’s cupboard, or even the drugstore. Where will you begin?
